Tune® Filter

With thousands of installations across North America, Tune® is a patented electrical filter that has a significant impact on lowering kilowatt usage and reducing your company’s carbon footprint. The device is brilliant in its engineering and we have proven results that support our claims.

Tune® filters out harmonics. Harmonics is the noise and heat that is created from converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). For example, the power comes into your building as AC and then you plug in your iPhone which is DC. This transition creates harmonics which generate heat in your device’s battery. Tune® removes these harmonic
spikes (also known as heat or noise) and provides cleaner energy to the phone. Tune® reduces harmonics and electrical usage across your entire facility on everything from air conditioning through lighting and all things electronic.

Tune® has two filters in use (Lite and Commercial) and a third in final development (heavy industrial). Tune® is certified UL and is a patented product that has been installed since 2014.

What it does for you

Tune®’s purpose is to save clients’ resources by lowering their energy usage which will drive electrical savings, reach sustainability goals faster, reduce ongoing maintenance costs and extend the life of their electronic equipment. We do this by:

  • Electric kilowatt savings between 10% to 20% through reducing heat and harmonics within the electrical panel where harmonics causes energy loss

Every engineer who’s engaged with us says this has never been done, how did you figure it out? (mostly, “did you really do it?”)

Everyone has heard “Necessity is the mother of invention” – that is precisely what happened with Tune®. This was not a lucky break or some outgrowth of another invention – think 3M and the Post-It-Notes. This was four plus years of ongoing trials, failures (like the container melting from extreme heat), and some successes that fueled their motivation and kept their dream alive.

When Jim Owings and Tim Rosemore worked in major corporate data centers (Intel and Microsoft) they decided to build a device that addressed harmonics and spikes that both drive your electrical bills skyward and wear out equipment too quickly. They began designing the Tune® filter and over years of experimenting, which included lots of melted casings from heat passing through the device, the product was born. The world is understandably curious, yet skeptical.

Their invention, the Tune® filter. is like Steve Wozniak’s invention of bringing color to personal computers.

Late one night, while working on an Atari game Wozniak thought about how signals from colored TV's work by oscillating at a certain speed. He wondered what would happen if you applied this same concept digitally. Woz played with this idea until it worked and our experience with computer screens has been altered forever. His comment about this world-changing invention was "Sometimes you're not sure if something is going to work because it doesn't follow all the methodology or current understanding of science, but in this case it did work." Wozniak wasn’t sure why it worked, it just did. 

Tune® was born in the same fashion. While many engineers’ initial reaction is that this should not work, it does. The Tune® filter was simply the outgrowth of determination to find the right solution, exactly like Wozniak.

Our job isn't as easy, because we don't have a dynamic color screen to show you that this works. It’s a simple box that fits in your hand. And after 8 years of market data, multiple independent verifications and thousands of installations, this device is ready to reduce your kWh spend and return money to your organization. Of note:

We have validated our kWh and peak demand savings with hundreds of customers (including Trane, Henkel, Dominos, McDonalds, Universities, etc.), 3 rd party engineering services (that have provided numerous case studies where they validated the results), energy czars at ForTune® 500 companies who have conducted their own studies and followed U.S. Dept of Energy standards throughout.  We have certification from the U.S. Department of Energy as a “Power Saving Product.”

Tune® is intended for use in electrical breaker boxes with an operating voltage of 480 VAC or lower. Tune® is installed in each breaker box in a building, in parallel on the neutral bus bar, during normal operations in about 20 minutes. The installation procedure includes testing for efficacy to ensure measurement of current through the Tune® device to confirm the installation. Detailed instructions are provided to all commercial customers with their shipment.

Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician.

Pilot This

There are two ways to test this in your facilities. You can identify a location to install the Tune® filters and measure your reduction in kWh usage over a couple months. Or, with the proper metering device, you can measure electrical flow, install a Tune® filter and quickly see the drop in spikes.
